Algomo vs Sierra AI: A real-world comparison
Sierra builds customer-service agents for large enterprises, staffed by its own team. Algomo builds AI agents that autonomously discover and integrate with your systems and create interactive customer experiences. Below, both chats meet the same traveller on Intrepid Travel's website.

Intrepid Travel is a tour operator that has run small-group adventure trips worldwide since 1989, and it runs Sierra on its website, deployed the way Sierra deploys: in weeks or months, with its partner team. Our AI installed Algomo on the same site by itself, from the APIs the pages already use, with no integration project with Intrepid.
Same traveller, same questions, both chats recorded side by side, and Intrepid's own pages settle every answer.

What the recording shows
Three moments where the difference is on screen.
The answer comes from Intrepid's own page (0:13)
Asked whether a trip can be held without a deposit, Sierra opens with “Usually, no”. Intrepid's flexible bookings page says a spot can be saved for up to five days without paying a deposit. Algomo reads that page as it answers and opens it beside the chat.
It reads the trips, not just the search results (0:44)
The request is Japan, April 2027, under £3,500 each, with a night in a ryokan. Intrepid's own search returns five trips, with no filter for a ryokan night, and Sierra lists those five trips without narrowing them down. Algomo reads each of the five trip pages and returns the two that include the ryokan night.
Rich interface, not just text (1:19)
The two trips are cards with a photo, a price and a length. One tap sets them side by side in a table. Opening a trip draws its route on a map, day by day, and picking a departure opens it on Intrepid's page. Sierra writes the route and three dates as text.
Why teams consider a Sierra alternative
Sierra builds a strong product. What sends teams elsewhere is who gets to build and change the agent, and how it is priced and bought. Each line below is quoted from a public page.
Deploy in weeks
Sierra's own words for its rollout: built in Agent Studio and an SDK, and staffed by its partner team. The AI agents your team already runs, Claude Code, Codex or ChatGPT, have no part in it. On Algomo you build the agent, improve it and read its conversations, over MCP, with every change staged and reviewed.

Page not found
What sierra.ai/pricing returns. Contracts are quoted through sales, and the figures outside are estimates, so finance enters the process with no cost baseline.
[sierra.ai/pricing](https://sierra.ai/pricing#:~:text=page%20not%20found)
Hundreds of deployments
What the product page offers in place of a trial: a partner team's record. There is no free tier and no public trial, so a team commits to a sales process before anyone on it touches the product.

Teams that want the vendor to own their agent
How Decagon's comparison, a rival's page, describes who Sierra is best for. Logic built in the engagement lives with the vendor, so whatever your size, the agent is theirs to change. On Algomo it is yours: built and changed by your own AI agents, reviewed by your own people.

What the rows mean:
- **Commercials**: What it costs and how the bill is calculated.
- **Going live**: What it takes to get a working agent on the site, and who does it.
- **How it answers**: Where each answer comes from.
- **In the conversation**: What the agent can do beyond writing a reply.
- **Reach**: Where the agent can be used.
- **Control and trust**: How the agent is tested, governed and certified.
- **Proof and fit**: Who each vendor says it is for, and what it shows to back that up.
Notes on single cells:
- **Pricing model**, Algomo: Pay for what you use. Credits are spent only on what runs: a conversation that actually helped someone, a workflow run, a model call outside the chat. A conversation that went nowhere costs nothing. The plan sets the monthly amount, and nothing is added on top.
- **Pricing model**, Sierra: Sierra's pricing post describes outcome-based billing: a charge per resolved conversation, with a per-conversation option for routing and greeter interactions, and no published rate. Fin's page on Sierra's pricing, a rival's, reports an annual platform licence, a separate implementation charge and professional services on top of a negotiated per-outcome rate. Those are estimates, not Sierra's figures.
- **Published pricing**, Algomo: A free plan, then $50 to $4,300 a month on a published ladder, on this site's pricing page.
- **Published pricing**, Sierra: No pricing page on sierra.ai. Contracts are sales-quoted; outside figures are estimates.
- **Free plan or trial**, Algomo: A free plan with 100 credits a month, one agent and the full product, self-serve.
- **Free plan or trial**, Sierra: No public trial. Sierra's product page offers a demo request.
- **Live on the site the same day, in each vendor's words**, Algomo: “Live in minutes”: one snippet and a URL. Systems that only staff can reach are connected with help.
- **Live on the site the same day, in each vendor's words**, Sierra: “Deploy in weeks” on the product page; case studies of two to ten weeks in Sierra's fast-to-build post.
- **Built and changed by your own AI agents**, Algomo: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex or Cursor configure the workspace over MCP; the dashboard is where a person reviews the result.
- **Built and changed by your own AI agents**, Sierra: Sierra's partner team and the customer's team, in Agent Studio for simple logic and an SDK for the rest.
- **Make changes, review and test them live before publishing**, Algomo: Changes are made in a draft, reviewed as a before-and-after, tested on the live site, then published in one step.
- **Make changes, review and test them live before publishing**, Sierra: Agent Studio offers versioning, simulations and A/B tests, per Decagon's comparison. Testing a change on the live site before it ships is not described.
- **Reads the live page as it answers**, Algomo: Connectors call the site's own page APIs in the visitor's session; no stale copy is kept.
- **Reads the live page as it answers**, Sierra: The product page describes answers from connected systems of record and knowledge.
- **Uses the visitor's own session**, Algomo: Signed-in prices, region and basket are what the agent sees, because the calls run as the visitor.
- **Uses the visitor's own session**, Sierra: Not described on the product page.
- **Cards, comparison tables and reply buttons in the chat**, Algomo: Trip or product cards, side-by-side tables, baskets, booking panels and reply buttons.
- **Cards, comparison tables and reply buttons in the chat**, Sierra: Not described on the product page. Prose and a trip list in the recording above.
- **Acts on the site beside the visitor**, Algomo: Opens the right page beside the chat, filters a list, adds to a basket, holds a booking.
- **Acts on the site beside the visitor**, Sierra: Not described on the product page. A link to click in the recording above.
- **Lead enrichment, qualification and routing**, Algomo: Enrichment through Apollo, LinkedIn and Exa, a fit check against the rule you set, routing to a rep's calendar, booking.
- **Lead enrichment, qualification and routing**, Sierra: Not a stated focus of the product page.
- **Speaks first on a page, from what the visitor did**, Algomo: A message that opens after the visitor's own action on a page, using what they have said so far. On a product page it can offer one fitting add-on at the site's price.
- **Speaks first on a page, from what the visitor did**, Sierra: Not described on the product page or in Decagon's comparison.
- **Books a meeting in the chat**, Algomo: A calendar opens in the chat once the visitor qualifies, and the meeting books through Google or Outlook.
- **Books a meeting in the chat**, Sierra: Not described on the product page or in Decagon's comparison.
- **Handover to a person**, Algomo: A person on the team takes over with the whole conversation attached.
- **Handover to a person**, Sierra: Escalation to a human agent is part of the product.
- **Connects to your other systems**, Algomo: Workflows that call any service, check a condition, send an email or wait, starting from a page view, a message or a booking, set up by your own AI agents.
- **Connects to your other systems**, Sierra: “Securely connect to your systems of record”, on the product page, through its partner team and an SDK.
- **Web chat**, Algomo: Web chat on the site, with the agent working the page beside the visitor.
- **Web chat**, Sierra: Chat is one of the channels on the product page.
- **Voice**, Algomo: Web chat only.
- **Voice**, Sierra: Voice is on the product page's channel list.
- **Email**, Algomo: Web chat only.
- **Email**, Sierra: Email is on the product page's channel list.
- **SMS and WhatsApp**, Algomo: Web chat only.
- **SMS and WhatsApp**, Sierra: SMS, WhatsApp and Apple Business Chat are on the product page's channel list.
- **Inside ChatGPT**, Algomo: Web chat only.
- **Inside ChatGPT**, Sierra: Inside ChatGPT is on the product page's channel list.
- **Answers in the visitor's language**, Algomo: No fixed list. Algomo answers in whatever language the model it runs on handles, and it runs on Anthropic, Google, Mistral or OpenAI models, per the MCP catalog. A language the model handles poorly is handled poorly here too, and a new language arrives with the next model, with nothing to switch on.
- **Answers in the visitor's language**, Sierra: 59 languages, on the product page.
- **Testing and traces**, Algomo: Test conversations, per-node run traces with their credit cost, and conversation threads, all readable over MCP.
- **Testing and traces**, Sierra: Evaluations, simulations, Monitors and Explorer, per Decagon's comparison.
- **Published certifications**, Algomo: None published. The Enterprise plan adds SSO, a DPA, SLAs, retention controls and a security review.
- **Published certifications**, Sierra: SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, HIPAA, GDPR and FedRAMP, as reported by third parties; see the footnote.
- **Choice of model provider**, Algomo: Custom agents run on Anthropic, Google, Mistral or OpenAI models, per the MCP catalog.
- **Choice of model provider**, Sierra: Not published.
- **Recorded head-to-heads on live sites**, Algomo: Recorded head-to-heads on live sites, this page among them.
- **Recorded head-to-heads on live sites**, Sierra: None published.
- **Named enterprise customers published**, Algomo: No customer logos published.
- **Named enterprise customers published**, Sierra: “40% of the Fortune 50 partner with Sierra” and named case studies, on the product page.
- **Best for**, Algomo: Teams that want the agent live on their site now, built and changed by AI agents and reviewed by people.
- **Best for**, Sierra: “Teams that want the vendor to own their agent”, in Decagon's words; enterprises with a managed partner team.

Questions before a call
How long until it is live on our site?
One snippet and a URL. The agent reads the pages the site already serves and builds its tools from the endpoints those pages call. Systems that only staff can reach are connected with help, on Business and Enterprise.
Where do the answers come from, and what happens when the site changes?
From the live page and the site's own APIs, called in the visitor's session. A watchdog watches every connection and rebuilds a mapping when a redesign breaks it, so the next answer reads the changed page.
What does a conversation cost, and what does a failed one cost?
A conversation that actually helped someone costs five credits. One that went nowhere costs nothing. The plan sets the monthly credits, there is no overage, and no charge is ever added to the amount picked. Sierra bills per resolved conversation, on terms defined in the contract.
Who can change the agent once it is live?
AI agents, over MCP, from Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and anyone in the dashboard. Every change is staged in a session with a diff and saved in one step, so a person sees what changed before it is live.
What happens when a visitor needs a person?
Handover is built in. The person on the team gets the whole conversation, and escalation routing is set up with help on the Business plan.
What data leaves the visitor's browser?
Connectors run inside the visitor's own session, so their prices, region and basket stay where they are. Enterprise plans add a DPA, retention controls, SSO and a security review.
Where do these facts and dates come from?
The recording was made on 6 October 2026 on Intrepid's UK site, and Sierra's answers may be different today. Everything said about Sierra on this page was read on 19 October 2026. Channels, the 59 languages, “Deploy in weeks”, the partner team's “hundreds of deployments” and the Fortune 50 figure are on [Sierra's product page](https://sierra.ai/product). The outcome-based model, the per-conversation option for routing and greetings and the “in most cases” wording are in [Sierra's pricing post](https://sierra.ai/blog/outcome-based-pricing-for-ai-agents). The deployment case studies are in [Sierra's fast-to-build post](https://sierra.ai/blog/fast-to-build-faster-to-impact). The platform licence, implementation charge and professional services are from [Fin's page on Sierra's pricing](https://fin.ai/learn/sierra-ai-pricing), a rival's, reported as estimates. Agent Studio, the SDK, the testing suite, Monitors, Explorer, the certification list and the “vendor to own their agent” line are on [Decagon's comparison](https://decagon.ai/vs/sierra), a rival's page, quoted as such. Sierra's trust centre did not render in this capture.
Can the same test run against the chat we have today?
Yes. The same questions to the current chat and to Algomo, on the site, with the site's own pages as the referee, the way the Intrepid recording above was made.
